Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Elizabeth Tardiff needed to assign artwork for a middle-grade trilogy of fun, silly, witty fractured fairy tales. The cover art needed to integrate elements, characters and setting from the series in a typographic treatment. She hoped Jared could have fun with all the different details while creating a strong identity for the trilogy with attention getting typography. Jared loved the detail and charm of the stories and used color and humor in the lettering to create a typographic treasure hunt with the titles!
In the office we have a habit of truncated the titles to “Once, Twice and Thrice”, but this is a disservice to the wonderful rollicking titles themselves and Jared’s illustrations that set the stage for these mad-cap capers.
There are three books: Once Upon a Marigold, Twice Upon a Marigold and Thrice Upon a Marigold. The age range is 9-12.
